As part of the Global Compact Towards COP30 Program, the Network Brazil launched the project \u201cCombating Greenwashing\u201d, an initiative that brings together the Action Platforms on Anti-Corruption, Climate Action, and Communicate & Engage. The project\u2019s goal is to strengthen the role of compliance professionals in drafting and reviewing companies\u2019 institutional communications on environmental commitments, working side by side with sustainability and communication teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the eve of COP30 in Bel\u00e9m, the project addresses the growing number of greenwashing cases in sustainability campaigns and reports \u2013 a practice that generates market distrust and undermines corporate credibility in the face of global efforts to fight the climate crisis. To respond to this scenario, the initiative promotes collaborative knowledge-building and supports Brazilian companies in aligning their institutional communication with best practices and regulatory requirements, such as the standards of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM), and CONAR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Webinars and engagement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Between April and August 2025, the project hosted three thematic webinars, bringing together approximately 600 participants from different sectors and backgrounds on a learning journey around the topic:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2981 April 24 \u2013 \u201cCompliance and Greenwashing: how compliance can help combat greenwashing practices in companies\u201d, with Professor Luis Guedes (FIA Business School) and Marcus Vinicius de Carvalho (CVM); The sessions featured experts, regulators, and market representatives, reinforcing the importance of the joint action of compliance, sustainability, and communication in tackling greenwashing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In addition, the project promoted the panel \u201cCombating Greenwashing: transparency as an ally for climate\u201d, presented at the Ambition 2030 Forum, an event by the UN Global Compact \u2013 Network Brazil, held in S\u00e3o Paulo on June 4, 2025. The panel featured Ana Paula Carracedo, Chief Compliance Officer at Aegea; Lucio Vicente, General Director at Akatu; Fabiano Machado da Rosa, Founding Partner at PMR Advocacia; Jos\u00e9 Luiz Esteves da Fonseca, Executive Manager of Institutional Relations and Sustainability at MRV; and was moderated by Flora Bitancourt, Country Manager, World Climate Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Next steps<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Based on the content discussed in the webinars, the project will release two informative animated videos, which will be made freely available online.
