Work on selected items from the National Waste Inventory aiming at strategic solutions in the design, production, distribution, and post-consumer disposal behavior process.

WHAT IS THE GOAL?

Its goal is to actively engage companies to work on selected items, aiming at strategic solutions in the design, production, distribution, and post-consumer disposal behavior process.

HOW TO ACHIEVE IT?

Reinova will act through the development of product prototypes from participating companies to collaborate with the solution of the solid waste problem in seas, rivers, and oceans.

From the challenge of pollution to resource scarcity, the transition to a circular economy emerges as an essential imperative. By embracing the circular economy, we can transform environmental problems into opportunities, driving innovation and building a more resilient path for the future.

CONTEXT

A groundbreaking study, commissioned by Blue Keepers in 2022, indicates that each Brazilian may be responsible for polluting the seas with 16kg of plastics per year, and that 1/3 of the plastic produced throughout Brazil is at risk of reaching the ocean every year. The research was presented at the 2022 United Nations Ocean Conference.

In 2023, a second study revealed that Brazil has 600 major ‘entry points’ for plastic pollution in the Atlantic Ocean. The data are public and available by accessing our Webmap. The study was presented at the meeting of the International Treaty to End Plastic Pollution, led by UN Environment. Both studies were conducted in partnership with the Oceanographic Institute of the University of São Paulo.

Starting in 2024, Blue Keepers will make available the data from its sample collections of waste found in mangroves, beach shorelines, and riverbanks in different locations in Brazil. The National Waste Inventory is a deliverable that aims to stimulate company initiatives for design solutions, reverse logistics, and behavior.

In this context, from the data delivered by Blue Keepers and the ecosystem of the Circular Connection Movement, ReInova emerges, a REdesign and Innovation project, to actively engage companies to work on selected items, aiming at strategic solutions in the design, production, distribution, and post-consumer disposal behavior process.

HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?

By participating in Reinova, the company will participate in a journey of:

  • Immersion: immersion in internal materials for initial understanding of the challenge;
  • Workshop: recap of the National Waste Inventory and its territorialities and exploration of dynamics in axes such as reverse logistics, behavior, among others, that assist in directions for the following phases.
  • Prototyping: prototyping a solution, considering innovation, user-centered design, and industrial design, as well as monthly mentoring by experts and two intermediate workshops with the objective of providing collaboration between companies and presenting progress in their prototyping challenges.

YOU WILL ALSO HAVE ACCESS TO:

  • Synthesis of the work developed, as a knowledge repository, cataloging the innovative solutions proposed for easy access and reference by collaborating companies;
  • Testimonials in the video documentary.

PREREQUISITES FOR PARTICIPATION:

Your company needs to be part of the Global Compact – Brazil Network. After joining, demonstrate interest in sponsoring the project.
