Implement collective actions with the business sector in favor of Climate Justice and Just Transition, considering the responsibilities of companies in relation to the issues of climate change and human rights, bringing the people most vulnerable to the climate crisis to the center.
WHAT IS THE GOAL?
Mobilize sectors in Brazil, composed of companies and entities whose economic or social activities are directly linked to these areas, which prioritize resilience to extreme events of climate change effects, including the promotion of just transition of business models. This effort aims to generate and reformulate new business opportunities in an equitable way throughout the value chain, in addition to promoting respect for human rights.
HOW TO ACHIEVE IT?
It is proposed to use the World Bank’s methodology of “collective action”, which is a collaborative and sustained process of cooperation between stakeholders, to increase the impact and credibility of individual action, bringing participants who are individually vulnerable to an alliance of like-minded organizations and levels the playing field between competitors.
CONTEXT
In the context of the accelerated advancement of climate change, with already visible consequences such as extreme heat waves, sea level rise, hurricanes, floods and landslides, vulnerable groups are the most exposed to the consequences of these changes, such as indigenous peoples and traditional populations such as riverside dwellers, quilombolas, caiçaras, sertanejos, residents of subnormal agglomerations, among others, who historically contribute less to the greenhouse effect, but suffer more directly from its consequences.
It is in this scenario that the business sector has a fundamental role to play in the fight against the effects of climate change, and can take advantage of its position of influence to catalyze concrete actions of Climate Justice and Just Transition, bringing from discourse to practice and placing people in vulnerability at the center of their actions and strategies.
